ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes completed a pair of shutouts on the road this weekend with a 2-0 win over Sonoma State on Sunday morning.
Danny Ortiz continued his bid for CCAA Player of the Year getting in on both goals once again. He scored his sixth of the year in the 21st minute sending home the rebound off the penalty kick attempt. He assisted Peter Arellano again in the 47th minute for the second Coyote goal.
The Coyotes were aggressive all match, taking 12 shots with seven of them being on goal. Jacob Huber pitched his second-straight shutout, making three saves behind the stingy CSUSB defense.
"Sonoma State made us work for that one today," head coach Darren Leslie said. "It was a pretty scrappy performance overall, but sometimes you have to grind out wins on the road against a tough opponent like Sonoma. We are obviously delighted to be leaving Northern California this weekend with two wins, two shutouts, and five goals. On to next weekend."
The Coyotes are now 5-1 in the CCAA and just one match back in the loss column to Cal State LA, who they finish the season with.
