SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – On a hot and windy day, and in front of a raucous thunderstick-clad crowd, the Coyotes were nearly perfect in their 2-0 win over visiting San Francisco State in the quarterfinals of the 2018 CCAA Tournament.
The Coyotes got on the board early, in the 10th minute, as Jair Magallan kept on his scoring run, as Cesar Figueroa found him on the right side and he finished it in the lower left slot for his seventh of the year and fourth in three games.
The teams went to half at that count and Danny Ortiz made it 2-0 with his team-leading 11th goal of the year in the 62nd minute. He took an opportunistic bouncing ball and got behind the defense on the turnover. From there, he beat the keeper one-vs-one in the lower right.
The Coyotes whittled the clock away from there beautifully, allowing a deceiving 14 shots for SFSU in the match but just one real chance on goal.
Jacob Huber made two saves and with the CSUSB defense, pitched his third-straight shutout.
The Coyotes now move on to play Cal Poly Pomona on the campus of UC San Diego on Friday at 7 pm in the CCAA Semifinals. Live links will be posted on csusbathletics.com.
