SAN DIEGO – The CSUSB Coyotes had a couple late chances just miss as they fell 1-0 in the CCAA Championship Semifinals on Friday night to Cal Poly Pomona from the campus of UC San Diego.
The difference was a Bronco header in the 61st minute from a cross from the left. The Coyotes fought hard to tie though, as Francisco Sierra's free kick in the 73rd minute bounced off the far post but right back into play instead of in goal. In the 86th minute Isaac Balderrama flicked a header that sailed just high and one minute later Danny Ortiz took a free kick from almost straight on that sailed just wide right.
CPP led in shots on goal by just one, 5-4, with Ortiz and Jonathan Garcia taking two each for CSUSB.
The Coyotes 12-6-1 now must wait for the NCAA Selection show on Monday to see if their season will continue into the West Regional.
