SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 3 CSUSB Coyotes celebrated their four seniors pregame on Saturday night and Homecoming 2018, and in front of a crowd of 1000+ people, secured a 3-1 win over No. 9 CSULA.
The Coyotes started slow in set one, falling down 7-13. Their play quickly improved but they were unable to come all the way back, falling 21-25. They used that momentum and fired on all cylinders for the remainder of the match, especially out of system, keeping balls alive that turned into points all night.
Alexis Cardoza had an amazing night with 25 kills on 46 attempts with just two errors to hit. 500 with 15 digs. Hailey Jackson had 14 kills and hit .458. Sascha Dominique dominated late in the match and ended with nine kills. Jayann DeHoog led the set one turnaround and finished with 51 assists.
Set two featured runs by both teams but a three-point run late by CSUSB helped them to a 25-18 win. The Yotes ran off nine points in a row in set three with Cardoza accounting for four of them and won the set 25-13. CSULA tried to hang around in set four but a five-point run capped by two blocks from Jackson and Mikaela Grove set them up for the 25-17 win.
"Every time we won the point tonight you could really hear it," senior Hannah Barrett said. "We appreciate everyone who came out tonight to support us."
The Coyotes (22-2, 15-1 CCAA) led in digs 55-44 and blocks 9-7. They hit .373 and plus-.400 the final two sets. They wrap the regular season next Saturday night at CSU Monterey Bay at 7 pm. Live links are available on csusbathletics.com.
