CARSON, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes secured themselves a playoff match with a 4-0 win over CSU Dominguez Hills on Friday night in Carson. Jair Magallan posted the hat trick for the Yotes with three goals, the first for CSUSB since Obi Agwu did it against Cal State East Bay in October of 2010.
Danny Ortiz got the scoring started 26 minutes in on a penalty kick. Just before half in the 40th minute, Magallan took an assist from Jonathan Garcia and beat his defender down the middle low. Magallan scored his second goal eight minutes into the second half on an assist from Fabian Roman and Jeronimo Valdapena. The quick combo passes resulted in a goal from just outside the box into the right corner. Magallan finished the hat trick one minute later when Tony Di Donato set him up for an open net shot on the right side.
The Coyotes did not allow a shot on goal from CSUDH and scored on four of their five on target. They improved to 11-5 and 8-3 in conference.
The Coyotes still have work ahead to clinch a home playoff spot or first round bye. A win against Cal State LA on Saturday would at least clinch a home game and a loss by Cal Poly Pomona would do both. Match time is 2 pm in LA. Live streaming links are available on csusbathletics.com.
