SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 5 CSUSB Coyotes found their rhythm early on Saturday night and beat CSU East Bay, 3-0, inside Coussoulis Arena.
Alexis Cardoza finished the first set with a flurry and had a great night with 16 kills, hitting .464. Sascha Dominique capped a great weekend with 12 kills and Asia Clarke added nine. The Coyotes used a huge ace advantage again, 6-1, and led in kills, 49-34, and digs, 39-33. They hit .354 as a team and held CSUEB to .228.
The first set was back and forth most the way, with the score being tied at 20. Cardoza took over from there with four kills and a block to score the last five points and win 25-21. The Pioneers were hanging around at 19-14 in set two, but Dominique finished with a three-kill flurry and CSUSB won 25-14. The Coyotes methodically built a lead in set three and another late push, capped by an ace from Jayann DeHoog, saw them win 25-18.
"We dialed into the other side and did a great job putting our first ball contact on the three-foot line," Cardoza said.
The Coyotes are back at home next weekend with CSU Dominguez Hills on Friday and Cal State LA on Saturday for Homecoming. Both games at 7 pm and live links on csusbathletics.com.
