No. 24 Coyotes roll

SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 29, 2017) — Senior OH Lauren Nicholson and sophomore OH Moira Murphy each had 17 kills in No. 24 CSUSB's dominating 3-0 victory over visiting UC San Diego in CCAA play Friday night.

What the victory meant
CSUSB improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 CCAA after winning its third straight, straight-set win all at Coussoulis Arena with its 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 victory. UCSD lost its first CCAA contest and dropped to 9-3, 3-1.

Big Night for Lauren
Nicholson needed just one kill for No. 1000 in her CSUSB career, and she earned it when she gave CSUSB a 9-4 lead in the first. She is just the eighth Coyote to reach the milestone and she did it in just 2 ½ years after transferring from Portland State in 2015. She hit .500 with 17 kills/2 errors in 30 attacks.

Moira powerful
Murphy was just as impressive with her 17/3/26 effort that led to a .538 percentage. Six of her 17 kills occurred in the first set.

Twin sets
Junior Hannah Barrett and junior Jayann DeHoog were equally dominant on the attack as Barrett led with 23 assists and DeHoog 21. They helped CSUSB to a .359 attack effort with 50 kills, 13 errors in 103 attacks.

Can't forget Hailey
Junior MB Hailey Jackson swatted four solo blocks with three block assists, along with six kills.

Strong momentum
CSUSB were 77.4 percent on sideouts in the first two sets and never allowed the Tritons to gain much momentum. CSUSB finished the night 67 percent, while UCSD was just 46 percent.

About tomorrow night
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday when it takes on Cal State San Marcos. First serve is 7 p.m.

Coach Says
"This was a victory for our team in that it's the first time all season that we have had every member of our roster available to play,'' head coach Kim Cherniss said. "We were extremely efficient on offense, thanks to the way that Jayann and Hannah delivered the ball. Moira and Lauren were fantastic on the left tonight and hit for exceptionally high percentages. Hailey also was very good blocking. A real strong, all-round effort tonight.''
