No. 22 Coyotes sweep the competition

SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 23, 2017) — No 22 CSUSB received quality serving from juniors Jayann DeHoog and Hannah Barrett and the Coyotes rolled past visiting Cal State Monterey Bay 3-0 at Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night.
 
Great Assist average
The best teams in volleyball average nearly 15 assists per set, and thanks to DeHoog (23) and Barrett (20), the Coyotes averaged 16 assists in each set. In fact, all but one of the Coyotes' 49 kills resulted from an assist.
 
Nick at Night
Senior OH Lauren Nicholson culminated the weekend with another outstanding effort, hitting .452 on 16/3/31 attacks. She also had a double-double with a team-high 13 digs. She led with 18 points with one service ace and two block assists.
 
Way to go Alexis
Freshman Alexis Cardoza helped polish off the Otters with 13 kills (hitting .385) with eight digs, two service aces, and two block assists for a total of 16 points.
 
For the match …
CSUSB hit .357 with 49 kills and only nine attack errors … Barrett helped her cause with two service aces … Moira Murphy had eight kills and Hailey Jackson seven … Freshman Lydia Morohunfola had four kills with four block assists … Both Cardoza and L Leilia To'omalatai had eight digs. Barrett had six digs.
 
Momentum turning point
The second set featured nine ties and one lead change. Tied at 17-17, Cardoza and Jackson gave the Coyotes a two-point lead. Nicholson then crushed three straight kills and the set was well-in-hand.
 
Record time
CSUSB improved to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA.
 
What's next
The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena on Friday night against rival UC San Diego.
