SAN BERNARDINO (April 8, 2017) — Kristian De La Torre totaled five hits on the day, but the Coyotes were swept in their CCAA doubleheader against Sonoma State, losing 7-5 and 9-3 on Saturday at Fiscalini Field.
CSUSB takes a 9-24 overall and 8-15 CCAA slate into Sunday's finale against the Seawolves (16-13, 12-11) at 11 a.m.
Game 1: SSU 7, Coyotes 5
SSU grabbed 7-0 lead in four innings and held off the Coyotes.
Trailing by six runs, CSUSB's
Eli Zaragoza hit a two-run single and
Damion Edmonds followed with an RBI-double and the Coyotes were within three of the lead.
Edmonds got another RBI in the eighth on an infield out.
Dillon Fahr had three hits and De La Torre had three in the opener. Both Zaragoza and Edmonds each had two hits.
Sabino Ramirez (3-6) went 3.1 innings and was dealt the loss.
Don Sullivan struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
Game 2: SSU 9, Coyotes 3
CSUSB responded with a three-run fourth, but was shut down the rest of the way.
De La Torre and Edmonds each had RBIs in the inning. CSUSB had the bases loaded in the eighth with one out.
De La Torre had two hits as did Edmonds.
Jon Ferrendelli took the loss in five innings with five strikeouts.
