SAN BERNARDINO (April 29, 2017) — CSUSB earned its first doubleheader sweep of the season, winning 14-7 and 8-4 over Cal State San Marcos in CCAA baseball at Fiscalini Field on Saturday.
The Coyotes (13-32, 10-23 CCAA) and Cougars (16-29, 6-27) complete their four-game series Sunday in San Marcos. First pitch is 11 a.m.
Game 1: Coyotes 14, Cougars 7
CSUSB used 13 hits and scored runs in six innings to win going away.
Austin Lundeen connected on a two-run single in the first and later scored on
Tyler Robles' single up the middle. The Coyotes added one in the second on a
A.J. Duran ground out, before striking with four runs in the third.
The Coyotes sent nine batters to the plate with four hits.
Andrew Jurado had an RBI-double and
Damion Edmonds a run-scoring single.
Dominic Campeau had a two-run single in the sixth, while
Dillon Fahr tripled in the seventh that scored Edmonds, and
Lucas Martinez hit a solo home run in the inning
Starter
Jon Ferrendelli went 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and five walks.
Noah Simon earned the save in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Game 2: Coyotes 8, Cougars 4
The Coyotes answered with a five-run, five-hit sixth for the win. Fahr had a run-scoring single, and two batters later, Martinez connected for a two-run double that keyed the effort.
Both Fahr and
Jordan Simon had two hits.
Cory Peterson earned the win in just 1/3 of an inning after relieving starter
Don Sullivan in the sixth. Sullivan had seven strikeouts with just two walks.
