SAN MARCOS (April 28, 2017) — The Coyotes stranded nine runners on base and host Cal State San Marcos scored four runs in the fifth in its 7-3 victory Friday afternoon in CCAA baseball.
The Coyotes (11-32, 8-23 CCAA) and Cougars (16-27, 6-25) are at Fiscalini Field on Saturday for a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
Lucas Martinez put the Coyotes on the board in the first. His two-out double down the left-field line scored
Dillon Fahr, who led off the game with a single through the left side off Alex Wall.
CSUSM answered with a home run from Tyler Place, who went on to drive in three runs on the day with two hits.
Dominic Campeau lifted a run-scoring single through the left side in the fourth for a 2-1 lead. Fahr scored his second run of the day.
But CSUSM brought eight to the plate in the fifth on just two hits for its four runs and led 5-2.
Campeau added his second RBI when his ground out to second scored Fahr, who walked in the seventh.
Sabino Ramirez (3-9) took the loss in four innings with six strikeouts, five walks, five hits. All five runs allowed were earned.
Both Place and Colin Dvorak had two hits apiece for the Cougars.
Eli Zaragoza had a pair of singles for the Coyotes.
