SAN BERNARDINO (March 9, 2017) — CSUSB freshman
Dominic Campeau connected on a two-run home run, but visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills grabbed control with a five-run eighth inning in its 9-4 win over the Coyotes on Thursday at Fiscalini Field.
CSUDH, which snapped its 13-game losing streak improved to 3-15 overall and 1-8 CCAA, while CSUSB dropped to 3-14, 3-6.
The Coyotes trailed 4-3 through seven innings, before CSUDH erupted with a five-run, six-hit eighth. CSUSB starter
Sabino Ramirez (2-3), this week's CCAA Pitcher of the Week, allowed all nine runs — all earned — before leaving with one out in the inning.
Trailing 1-0 entering its half of the second, the Coyotes tied the game thanks to
Lucas Martinez's double to left that scored
Tyler Van Marter (hit by pitch).
In the fourth,
A.J. Duran took a leadoff walk, and one out later Campeau came through with a blast over the right-field wall.
Van Marter accounted for CSUSB's final run of the day on a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Campeau went 2-for-3 as CSUSB had just five hits off Toros' starter Joe Bresson.
The Coyotes and Toros continue their four-game series Friday with a 9-inning game at Fiscalini. First pitch is 2 p.m.
