Robles keys Coyotes' victory

SAN BERNARDINO (March 10, 2017) — Tyler Robles broke up a 5-5 tie game with a two-run, two-out double in the seventh inning, giving CSUSB a 7-5 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA baseball Friday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.

The Coyotes (4-14, 4-6 CCAA) and Toros (3-16, 1-9) resume their series Saturday in Carson, beginning at 11 a.m.

CSUSB was in search of a timely hit when Robles, a transfer after the University of North Dakota dropped its program last spring, came through in the seventh. CSUDH pitchers combined to walk nine Coyotes and added three hit by pitches. Still, CSUDH outhit the Coyotes, 15-6.

The Coyotes grabbed an early 3-0 lead through two innings. Kristina DeLaTorre drove in Dillon Fahr on a ground-out in the first, and the Coyotes scored two runs on two hits and two errors in the second. Lucas Martinez added an RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

The Toros took a 5-4 lead in their half of the fifth when they sent 10 batters to the plate. They scored five runs on six hits.

Coyotes starter RHP Jon Ferrendelli threw four innings and had five strikeouts in a no-decision. Reliever Austin Casillas earned the win with four innings of shut-out relief with four strikeouts.

DeLaTorre joined Robles with two RBI.

CSUDH's Brandon Polizzi and Esteban Ortega each went 3 for 5.
