SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 25, 2017) — The Coyotes opened CCAA play with a split series against Cal State L.A., after losing 10-0 and winning 6-3 in Saturday's series finale.
CSUSB (2-10 overall, 2-2 CCAA) steps outside of conference play Tuesday night when it plays host to Concordia-Irvine. First pitch is 6 p.m. at Fiscalini Field.
Game 1: CSULA 10, Coyotes 0
CSUSB had just six hits as CSULA scored multiple runs in the first, third, and seventh innings.
A.J.Duran had the only extra-base hit for the Coyotes; a leadoff double in the third.
Don Sullivan (0-2) gave up nine hits, six runs and struck out three.
Game 2: Coyotes 6, CSULA 3
Trailing 3-0 entering their half of the fourth, the Coyotes struck with three runs and backed it up with another three-run inning in the fifth for the split.
Daniel Romo led off with a walk in the fourth, and two outs later, he reached third.
Tyler Van Marter drove in Romo on a single to center. Pinch-hitter Jordan Smith doubled down the left-field line and Van Marter eventually scored on an error on the play.
Eli Zaragoza then tied the game on a run-scoring single to left and the game was tied at 3-3.
In the fifth, two runs came via a fielder's choice, and CSUSB led 6-3 after
Dominic Campeau scored on a first-and-third play.
Lucas Martinez and Zaragoza each had two hits.
Senior RHP
Jon Ferrendelli earned the victory in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six and gave up four hits.
Austin Casillas earned the save with in 1 2/3 innings of no-hit relief.
