SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 27, 2017) — A record that stood for 17 seasons went by the wayside thanks to the play of senior OH Lauren Nicholson on Friday night in the Coyotes' victory over Chico State in CCAA play.
 
Record night
Nicholson threw down 29 kills in the victory, and broke three-time All-American Kim Morohunfola's record of 28 set against UC San Diego in 2000. Nicholson opened the night with 12 kills in the opener, eight in the second and nine in the third. In Nicholson's last two matches, she has 55 kills in matches that were played in three sets. Nicholson hit .490 on the night (29/4/51) with 16 digs.
 
The records show
CSUSB earned its sixth 3-0 home victory (25-17, 25-18, 29-27) in as many matches at Coussoulis. The Coyotes are 14-7 overall and 10-3 CCAA. Chico State dropped to 13-11, 7-7.

Nicholson entered the night with 888 career digs and now has 904.
 
Dominant
The match had just eight tie scores and only three lead changes — those occurring in the third set.
 
In the third
The Coyotes were on the brink twice in the third set, trailing 26-25 and 27-26. Down the stretch, Hailey Jackson tied the set with a kill, Nicholson then added her 29^th and Jackson had the match's final kill for the win. She finished with 10 kills. CSUSB hit .375 on 56 kills, only 11 errors in 120 attacks.
