SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 21, 2017) — There is no place like home for CSUSB volleyball. Behind a season-best crowd of 852 fans at Coussoulis Arena, the Coyotes took care of business in a straight set victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night.
What the victory means
CSUSB improved its record to 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the CCAA after winning its fifth straight 3-0 home match at Coussoulis in the 28-26, 25-21, 25-16 match. Cal Poly Pomona, which defeated the Coyotes earlier this month, fell to 9-11, 5-7.
The turning point
The Coyotes fell behind 10-4 in the opening set and had to work from behind for the set victory. The set had 10 ties and three lead changes, but CSUSB found the upper-hand late. Kills from
Lauren Nicholson and
Lydia Morohunfola brought the Coyotes back from the brink at 24-23 and 25-24, respectively. With the set tied at 26-26,
Sascha Dominique gave the Coyotes the lead, and then she teamed up with
Hailey Jackson on the block for the win.
Nick at Night
Nicholson had a most impressive effort with 26 kills, just five errors in 55 attacks for a .382 attack percentage. In the second set, the Upland native took absolute control with a whopping 12 kills in 18 attacks. She also added 14 digs.
Dominant Dominique
The Loyola Marymount transfer struck with 12 kills and shared the team lead in block assists with Jackson with four.
Setting the stage
Junior S
Jayann DeHoog set up her teammates with 41 assists. She also added seven digs with a kill and a block assist.
Taking control
CSUSB earned a 70 percent sideout in the third set, thanks to 17 kills and just one attack error in 44 attacks.

CSUSB plays host to Chico State on Friday night in the Coyotes' annual Dig for a Cure Night.
