Coyotes, Warriors draw 1-1

TURLOCK (Oct. 13, 2017) — An early goal put CSUSB in the lead, but the Coyotes and host Stanislaus State walked off the pitch Friday night with a draw.

The record shows
CSUSB earned a point in the CCAA standings and takes a 7-6-1 overall mark and 5-3-1 CCAA record into Sunday morning's game at Chico State. The Warriors, who played just their third home game of the season, are 5-3-4, 2-2-3.

Mr. Aguilar
Freshman Kevin Aguilar gave CSUSB the lead in the 7th minute, thanks to a feed from Danny Ortiz. Aguilar received a pass in the box and ripped the shot at the far post. It was his fourth goal of the season. He totaled three of the Coyotes' seven shots on goal.

In the net
Sophomore GK Jacob Huber turned back six of the Warriors' seven shots.

Hard fought game
CSUSB and Stanislaus State totaled 35 fouls for the game.

Coach says
"Got the early goal and had momentum, but couldn't capitalize on a couple of other early chances to get us in the clear,'' head coach Darren Leslie said. "They came back strong and after it tied up, we had wave after wave of attack from both teams. It had a real old fashioned 'cup tie' feel about the game. It's a game you cherish as a player but not so much as a coach. A draw was a fair result. Our game Sunday becomes an even more important contest for each team.''
