ROHNERT PARK (Sept. 18, 2016) — Victories have been difficult to attain in CSUSB's history against Sonoma State. Entering play Sunday, the Coyotes had defeated the Seawolves just twice in a 22-game series with both wins since the 2012 season.
Thanks to
Isaias Castellanos, the Coyotes can chalk up win No. 3.
In the 68
th minute,
Enrique Garcia sent in the ball to Castellanos, who drove a shot from 10 feet for the game's only goal in CSUSB's 1-0 win. The Coyotes (4-1, 2-0 CCAA) won their fourth straight game, their second straight shutout and third in the young season.
The shutout, credited to freshman
Jacob Huber, spells volumes about interim head coach
Darren Leslie's defense. CSUSB allowed just three shots on goal against Huber in earning the victory.
The game was defensive as the teams totaled 29 fouls with six yellows.
SSU dropped to 1-2-3, 1-1.
The Coyotes return to Coyote Premier Field on Friday when they play host to Cal State Monterey Bay.
