Box Score 2 SEASIDE (April 10, 2016) -- Not even a two-hour rain delay could deter the Coyotes in playing some of their best softball of the season.
CSUSB took care of business in its weekend series against Cal State Monterey Bay, take a four-game sweep with Sunday's 8-2 and 8-3 victories.
The Coyotes (26-21, 17-15 CCAA) have won seven straight and eight of their last nine before next weekend's series at UC San Diego.
Game 1: Coyotes 8, CSU Monterey Bay 3
Trailing 3-0 through three innings, the Coyotes got on track scoring eight unanswered runs for the victory.
A bases-loaded walk gave
Jessica Brown an RBI, and
Monica Maddox followed with a three-run triple that gave CSUSB a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning and
Morgan Ratliff pushed the lead to 5-3 on a ground out in which the Coyotes sent eight to the plate on just two hits.
Then in the fifth, CSUSB extended the lead to 8-3 with a double from
Kaylee Gemmell and RBIs from Brown (single) and
Cassandra Williams (fielder's choice).
Amanda Ramirez earned the start, and Williams finished off the Otters in four innings of relief with three strikeouts.
Amanda Herrera continued her hot-hitting on a 3-for-4 game.
Game 2: Coyotes 8, CSU Monterey Bay 2
Ramirez performed extremely well on the mound with six shut-out innings after the Otters tied the game at 2-2 in the first.
She had one strikeout and did not offer a walk in improving her record to 6-5. She gave up only four hits after the opening frame.
The Coyotes broke away from a 2-2 game in the fifth. Back-to-back run-scoring singles from
Ashley Leffingwell and
Caitlyn Olan gave CSUSB a 4-2 lead, and Brianna Quintana earned an RBI on a sacrifice bunt.
Leffingwell then gave her team a big boost with a three-run home run to left for the 8-2 lead.
CSUSB had 12 hits with Ratliff,
Jessica Angulo, Gemmell,
Caelan Smith and Leffingwell all with two hits.
