Box Score 2 SAN MARCOS (March 5, 2016) -- CSUSB never trailed in its 16 innings against Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, winning 8-6 and 11-5.
The day was noteworthy for coach
Dave Martinez and his crew that improved to 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA. Through 23 games in 2016, the Coyotes already have matched their total wins from a year ago.
Game 1: Coyotes 8, CSU San Marcos 6Jake Caron and
Dylan Lohman wasted little time putting the Coyotes on the scoreboard, as Caron ripped a run-scoring double to right, and Lohman dealt a two-run single to cap a three-run first.
Brian Lockey extended the lead to 3-0 on a run-scoring single in the third.
In the ninth, Lockey came through with a two-run single, and two batters later,
Daniel Romo extended the lead to 8-0 with a two-run double.
The Cougars made things interesting in the ninth with five runs, but it wasn't enough.
Caron,
Andrew Lopez, Lockey and Romo all had two hits.
Brian Conley went 7 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and earned the victory to improve to 2-2.
Game 2: Coyotes 11, CSU San Marcos 5CSUSB coasted to an 11-0 lead and held on for the win.
Andrew Lopez got the Coyotes going with a sac fly in the first, and
William Ouellette and
Dylan Lohman each had two-run singles in the second and third innings, respectively, before the Coyotes got rolling with a six-run, six-hit onslaught.
Romo connected on a two-run shot to left for the 11-0 lead in the fourth.
Ouellette and Lohman each had two hits.
Noah Simon went 3 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.
Cory Peterson earned the victory in relief with 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and one walk with two hits allowed.
