Dave Martinez

CSUSB alum David Martinez was named the Coyotes head coach in August 2015.

Martinez led the Coyotes to the CCAA Tourney and their most victories in four seasons, by going 22-29 overall and 17-20 in the CCAA in his debut season in 2016. The Coyotes finished third in the CCAA South and earned a trip to the CCAA Tournament in the first season that the conference expanded its postseason tourney from four entrants to six.

RHP Tyler Wells was drafted in the 15th round by the Minnesota Twins in MLB's Player Draft and RHP William Ouellette signed as a free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays' organization.

Martinez spent the 2013-15 seasons as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Dixie State University. The Red Storm earned NCAA Tournament berths in each of his three seasons and won the 2013 and 2014 Pacific West Conference championships. Three of his pitchers moved on to professional baseball — two through the MLB draft and one free agent signing — in the last two years.

He has coached at the Division I level where he helped the University of New Mexico reach the NCAA Tournament in both of his seasons in Albuquerque (2011 and 2012) and three seasons at UNLV (2008-10). At both positions he served as the pitching coach and at UNLV, led the Rebels’ recruiting efforts.

Martinez played at Riverside City College under head coach Dennis Rogers, and later returned to Riverside as the Tigers’ pitching coach and co-recruiting coordinator for two seasons (2006-07). He left Riverside for UNLV after it won the California state title in 2007.

Martinez began his career as a volunteer assistant at CSUSB in 2004 after a career in the golf industry. He earned his degree in kinesiology at CSUSB in 2004, and then moved on to Purdue where he also served as a volunteer for the 2005 season until returning to the Inland Empire at RCC in the summer of 2005.

David and his wife Saraya are the parents of two children – Andrew and Sofia.
