Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (March 25, 2016) — Amanda Herrera had a pair of hits in the opener, but visiting Sonoma State's Amanda Llerena was the difference maker with a three-hitter that featured 11 strikeouts and a walk as SSU defeated CSUSB 3-1 on Friday afternoon
The second game was tied at 3-3 through nine innings before the game was suspended due to darkness. The game will be continued at 11 a.m. Saturday with the regularly-scheduled doubleheader to follow.
Game 1: Sonoma State 3, Coyotes 1The Seawolves earned the lead for good in the early going with a two-run second inning and that allowed Llerena the necessary cushion.
Jena Kaiser led off the inning with an opposite-field home run right off Coyotes starter
Cassandra Williams. Emma Ryan later doubled to right center to scored Alison Strycula for the 2-0 lead.
CSUSB answered with its only run of the game in the third. Herrera led off with a double to left center, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the center fielder. Two batters later,
Amanda Ramirez reached on an error by the third baseman and that allowed Herrera to score.
Jordann White added an RBI-single in the fifth.
Jessica Brown had the only other hit for the Coyotes (17-17, 12-13 CCAA), who lost their ninth straight. She singled in the left in the seventh.
Leanna Georges and Kaser were the only Seawolves (15-11, 12-8) who had two hits.
