Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (March 20, 2016) -- The month of March was good to coach
Dave Martinez and his Coyotes after his club defeated Stanislaus State 13-6 on Sunday in the series finale at Fiscalini Field.
CSUSB won for the seventh time in its last nine games and secured its third straight series in the month. CSUSB took three of four from Cal State San Marcos, two of three from Chico State and now two of three from the Warriors.
The Coyotes grabbed control early with four runs in the first, one in the second and five in the third for a 10-1 lead they did not relinquish.
CSUSB sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning. Leading 1-0,
Brian Lockey came through with a two-run single to right, and
Dylan Lohman followed with a run-scoring single to left for the 4-1 lead.
Jake Caron added an RBI-single in the second, and CSUSB laid no doubt about the result in its four-run, three-hit third inning in which the Coyotes sent 10 to the plate.
Lockey opened the inning with a double to right center, and three batters later,
Ryan Rich came through with a run-scoring single to left center. Caron added an RBI on a bases-loaded walk, and
William Ouellette had a RBI-single to left.
Daniel Romo also had a bases-loaded walk for an RBI.
Rich led the Coyotes with a 4-for-4 day, while Lohman had three hits, and Ouellette and Lockey each had two hits.
On the mound,
Brian Conley went 4 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.
Josh Smith came on in relief in the fifth, adn earned the victory in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Austin Casillas earned the save with three innings. He had two strikeouts and allowed two hits.
Patrick Mulry homered for the Warriors (12-9, 5-6) in the first.
The Coyotes are now 14-15 overall and 9-8 in the CCAA before they take on San Francisco State on April 2-3 at Fiscalini Field.
