Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (March 12, 2016) -- The Coyotes had a difficult time in their series against Chico State, losing all four games in the series with Saturday's 8-3 and 4-1 losses at Coyote Park.
The Coyotes (17-12 overall and 12-8 CCAA) are at Humboldt State next weekend.
Game 1: Chico State 8, Coyotes 3 9 inningsChico State put the game away with a five-run ninth inning.
CSUSB trailed 3-1 entering the seventh inning before getting in contention for the victory.
The Coyotes put two on the bases with two outs, thanks to
Morgan Ratliff reaching base on a two-out walk and pinch-hitter
Caitlyn Olan on a hit by pitch.
Ashley Leffingwell pinch-hit for
Monica Maddox and responded with a seeing-eye two-run double between third and short. The ball was tipped slightly off the shortstop's glove, and that created an opening as Chico State's left fielder played the ball the opposite direction.
Chico put the game out of reach when it sent nine to the plate in the ninth, scoring five runs (all earned) on five hits.
Taylor Ancona had two hits and
Cassandra Williams accounted for the other RBI on a single in the second.
Game 2: Chico State 4, Coyotes 1Kaylee Gemmel ruined the Wildcats' shut-out bid with a lead-off home run far over the left-center wall in the sixth.
CSUSB had just five hits with Gemmell's home run the only extra-base hit.
Both teams had five errors.
Chico State improved its record to 16-6, 13-5.
