Box Score 2 SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 21, 2016) -- Through 17 games in 2016,
Cassandra Williams has proven yet again that success runs through the junior's left arm.
Williams threw two, three-hit shutouts Sunday against San Francisco State, earning a 7-0 victory in the opener, and then kept it going in a 1-0 victory.
She improved to 9-3 overall with a 1.97 ERA as CSUSB also improved to 10-7 and 5-3 in the CCAA. She and her teammates return to Coyote Park this week when CSUSB takes on Stanislaus State.
Game 1: Coyotes 7, SFSU 0CSUSB scored four runs in the third on three hits, and
Jessica Brown ripped a two-run shot in the fifth.
In the third,
Monica Maddox secured a run-scoring single to center that scored
Taylor Ancona (walk) and
Jessica Angulo earned another RBI on a fielder's choice that brought in
Amanda Herrera.
Caelan Smith also had a run-scoring single and
Morgan Ratliff also scored.
Then, Brown lifted a two-run shot to left center after Smith led off the fifth on a hit by pitch. Ancona finished the scoring for the Coyotes in the sixth.
Williams struck out 10, walked three and all three hits allowed were singles. SFSU had just one player reach beyond second in the game.
Maddox and Ancona each had two hits. Ratliff also had a single.
Game 2: Coyotes 1, SFSU 0Smith gave Williams and the Coyotes all the help they would need with her double to right in the fourth that scored Angulo.
Ratliff had two singles, and Angulo and
Melissa Roberts each singled in the victory.
Williams struck out four, walked three in securing her consecutive three-hit shutout victories.
SFSU dropped to 4-5, 1-3.
