SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 22, 2016) — A late rally in the first set got No. 18 CSUSB rolling as it went on to defeat visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 in CCAA play Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes (15-4 overall, 9-2 CCAA) hit .289 on the night, thanks to 15 kills from
Lauren Nicholson and 10 from All-American
Malika O'Brien. CSUSB extended its winning streak to six straight and concluded a five-match home stand unscathed.
Trailing 22-17 in the opener, a kill and an ace from Nicholson and two kills from O'Brien keyed a 5-0 run and the set was tied at 22.
After CSUDH grabbed the lead at 23-22, a kill from O'Brien and a Toros' attack error set up a final kill from O'Brien for the opening-set win.
The Toros led just once the rest of the way as CSUSB hit .320 (13/5/25) in the second and .241 in the third for the victory.
CSUDH (7-14, 4-9) helped the Coyotes' cause with 13 attack errors in the final set.
Setter
Jayann DeHoog had 34 assists and a match-high three aces. Freshman
Kaili Scott and sophomore Hailey Jackcson each had five total blocks.
Nicholson and senior libero
Abbey Vollkommer led in digs with eight.
The Coyotes return to the road this week with matches at Cal State San Marcos (Friday) and UC San Diego (Saturday).
The victory was CSUSB's 48
th straight over the Toros, dating to the 1993 season.
