SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 15, 2016) — The 19
th-ranked Coyotes dominated from beginning to end, earning a 3-0 win over visiting Cal State San Marcos in CCAA play Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
Junior
Lauren Nicholson led the way with a 20 kills and a .655 attack percentage in CSUSB's 25-16, 25-9, 25-15 victory over the Cougars. The win was CSUSB's third straight as it improved its record to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA. CSUSM dropped to 12-7, 5-5.
CSUSB hit .425 (40 kills, 6 errors, 80 attacks) and were aided by CSUSM's 25 attack errors.
The Coyotes led from the get-go and the match was never tied. They jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the opener with Nicholson leading the way with seven kills.
CSUSB hit .500 in the second. Leading 6-5, the Coyotes built a 13-1 run and overpowered the Cougars, who were just .28 percent on sideouts.
Nicholson had seven kills in the final set and
Hailey Jackson added four kills.
On the block, All-American
Malika O'Brien led with one solo and four block assists. Jackson had one solo and three block assists. Freshmen
Kaili Scott (four kills, two block assists) and
Amy Armstrong (three kills) played big in the win.
Setter
Jayann DeHoog had 33 assists, and senior
Abbey Vollkommer led CSUSB with nine digs.
The Coyotes continue their five-match homestand Tuesday night when they take on Cal Poly Pomona.
Madi Anderson led CSUSM with seven kills.
