Record day for Coyotes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (April 10, 2015) -- All-American Nicole Nobbe, RHP Cassandra Williams and Victoria Lievanos put the Coyotes in control in their doubleheader sweep over Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA sofball Friday afternoon at Coyote Park.

The Coyotes swept the Warriors 3-2 in eight innings and 5-3 in the second and pushed their record to 22-22 overall and 14-11 in the CCAA. The Warriors fell to 13-27, 5-21.

The two teams conclude their weekend series at 11 a.m. Saturday. It marks Senior Day as the Coyotes will honor their four -- Victoria Lievanos, Mary Menicucci, Nobbe and Alyssa Ramos.

Game 1: Coyotes, 3, Warriors 2 8 innings
This may have been the finest game of the season in which both starting pitchers were at their best. In the end, Williams earned the victory.

Nobbe hit two solo home runs and Ramos came through with the game-winning hit in the eighth for the victory.

Nobbe opened the game with a shot to center and Monica Maddox singled to give the Coyotes a quick start.

But Warriors starter Jessica Varady was outstanding. She retired the next 12 batters and CSUSB didn't get its third hit until Nobbe hit another solo shot to center in the sixth.

Varady did her best at the plate to keep her team in the game with a solo home run in the fifth and an RBI-double in the seventh.

But CSUSB got the walk-off, thanks to Ramos in the eighth.Nobbe reached on a one-out, intentional walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and got to third on a ground-out by Maddox.

That set the table for Ramos, who delivered a shot just past the Warriors' shortstop that allowed Nobbe to easily score.

Williams was strong in her eight innings, with eight strikeouts and just one walk. She allowed four hits and both runs were earned.

Varady had nine strikeouts and kept the Coyotes off-balance with an effective rise pitch.

Game 2: Coyotes 5, Warriors 3
Lievanos carried her team with two home runs, including a two-run drive in the first, and the Coyotes overcame a 2-0 deficit before they had a chance to bat.

Tied at 2-2 in the second, Menicucci came through with a two-run double, and Lievanos added her second HR in the third.

Jamie Nelson (9-8) earned the win in five innings, and Williams secured her third save wtih three strikeouts in two innings.

It also marked a milestone for Williams, who became the Coyotes' single-season strikeout leader. She totaled 11 on the day and now has 155, two more than Tawni Baker's 153 in 2007.
