Coyotes take series against SFSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAN FRANCISCO (March 21, 2015) -- The Coyotes gained their second straight series in CCAA play, splitting Saturday's doubleheader against San Francisco State with a 3-2 loss in eight innings and a 10-7 victory in the second.

CSUSB, which has won eight of its last 12 games and is 17-15 overall and 9-10 CCAA, is off this week due to Spring Finals and returns to Coyote Park on March 31 when it faces nationally-ranked Cal Baptist.

Game 1: Gators 3, Coyotes 2 8 innings
Cassandra Williams crushed a solo home run and senior Victoria Lievanos went 2-for-4 with a double, but the Coyotes had just five hits.

Pinch-runner Monica Maddox gave the Coyotes their first run, scoring on an error in the second inning. They were kept off the scoreboard until Williams secured a lead-off shot in the sixth.

Williams took the hard-luck loss, throwing 7 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and just two walks.

Game 2: Coyotes 10, Gators 7
Nicole Nobbe shook aside a difficult series in the finale, going 3-for-4 with five RBI that keyed a 14-hit attack for the Coyotes in which each of their nine earned a base hit.

Mary Menicucci put the Coyotes on the scoreboard with a run-scoring single to center that scored Briana Quintana. Two batters later, Nobbe ripped a two-run double to left.

That brought up Alyssa Ramos, who crushed a home run to right and the Coyotes owned a 5-0 lead.

The Gators answered with four runs in the fourth, but the Coyotes answered with a five-run fifth for all the runs they would need.

Menicucci and Maddox reached base on a single and a hit by pitch, respectively, and Nobbe brought them in with a shot over the right-field wall for an 8-4 lead. Four batters later, Melissa Roberts came through with a two-run single to center.

Menicucci and Maddox each had two hits.

Freshman RHP Jamie Nelson earned the victory and improved to 5-5 on the season. She threw six innings and gave up six hits and all five runs allowed were earned. She had one strikeout.
