Coyotes earn successful weekend

SAN BERNARDINO (March 14, 2015) -- Coach Jim Maier received maximum efforts from a host of Coyotes, who earned an 8-0 win over Chico State in their CCAA softball opener Saturday afternoon at Coyote Park.

Senior Victoria Lievanos went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, LHP Cassandra Williams threw a three-hit shutout and ended the game with a walk-off solo home run that finished the game in 6 innings due to the eight-run rule.

Chico State came back in the nightcap to win 8-0 in 6 innings.

The Coyotes, who have won five of their last eight, take their 14-14 overall record and 6-9 CCAA slate into San Francisco State next weekend.

Game 1: Coyotes 8, Chico State 0 6 innings
CSUSB broke through with a two-run third inning and the rout was on against Chico State (13-7, 10-6).

With one out, Lievanos ripped a shot to deep center field with Nicole Nobbe on second and the Coyotes grabbed a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Monica Maddox led off with a single through the left side, and later scored on a Nobbe double to right. Alyssa Ramos followed wtih a single to short, and Lievanos got the job done with a two-run single and CSUSB led 5-0.

The Coyotes added two in the fifth, with Maddox earning an RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

In the sixth with one out, Willias delivered a solo shot to center to end the game.

Williams and Melissa Roberts each had two hits for the Coyotes, who totaled 11 hits.

On the mound, Williams gave up a double and two singles. She had three strikeouts and walked just one with two hit batters.

Game 2: Chico State 8, Coyotes 0 6 innings
The Wildcats scored three runs in the first, two in the third and fourth and added another in the sixth for the win that also ended due to the eight-run rule.

Nobbe, Lievanos and Williams accounted for the three Coyotes hits.

Brynn Lesovsky and Briana Contreras each had three hits for the Wildcats off Coyotes' pitchers Jamie Nelson and Kacey Cota.
