The Coyotes outplayed Cal State L.A. in the second half and went on to earn a 75-67 victory in CCAA women's basketball Saturday night.
Junior guard Alexcia Mack scored a game-high 22 points and junior forward Adriana Brodie played a dream game with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Coyotes led throughout the second half and improved to 15-5 overall and 11-5 CCAA.
The Coyotes were red hot in the first half, hitting 55.6 percent from the floor and led 40-32 at the break. That's always a good sign as CSUSB entered the game 11-0 on the season when it holds the lead through 20 minutes.
Coach Renee Jimenez's team had two 10-point leads through the first eight minutes of the half, but the Golden Eagles mounted a run that cut the Coyotes' lead to 55-53 with 8:06 left.
That's when CSUSB stepped up its play. Brianna Harden hit two free throws and after CSULA missed three field goal attempts, a layup from Chelsea Barnes and two free throws from Mack put the Coyotes up 61-53 with 5:52 left.
CSUSB then tightened its grip on its foe, and built the lead back to 10-plus for the victory.
Mack was 5-of-12 from the floor with three 3s and nine free throws. Brodie was outstanding, hitting 7-of-10 shots, five offensive boards and three assists.
