Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 21, 2015) -- The Coyotes found out why Cal State Monterey Bay is ranked No.3 in country, losing 8-0 in 6 innings and 8-4 in Saturday's CCAA doubleheader.
The Coyotes (9-8, 1-3 CCAA) play at Sonoma State next week.
Game 1: Otters 8, Coyotes 0 (6 innings)
Senior All-American Nicole Nobbe and senior Victoria Lievanos each had a hit, but that was all the offensive muster the Coyotes had against the Otters' Lindsay Clarkson, who spun a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Otters, who led 1-0 after two innings, scored seven runs on eight hits in the sixth inning. Katie Ramos had a pinch-hit, three-run home run to cap the inning.
The Otters had 15 hits against freshman RHP Jamie Nelson, who gave up just the one run through the first five innings.
Game 2: Otters 8, Coyotes 4
Down 1-0 entering their half of the first inning, the Coyotes struck with a four-run first. Lievanos put the Coyotes on the board with a run-scoring single to short that scored Nobbe, who led off with a double.
With Kaylee Gemmell and Alyssa Ramos on base, courtesy of fielder's choices, freshman Caitlyn Olan laced a three-run homer over the left-center wall and the Coyotes led 4-1.
The Otters came back with a run fourth, then scored three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
CSUSB had just five hits, thanks to Nobbe, Roberts, Lievanos, Ramos and Olan.
Coyotes LHP Cassandra Williams had five strikeouts, but gave up 14 hits and all eight runs allowed were earned.
In the four-game series, Nobbe went 4-for-6 with two doubles and was walked eight times and hit by a pitch once.
