TURLOCK (Nov. 7, 2015) -- No. 17 CSUSB had its 11-match winning end Saturday night in a 3-2 loss to host Stanislaus State in CCAA volleyball.
Sophomore
Lauren Nicholson led the Coyotes, who are now 22-4 overall and 15-3 in the CCAA, with 22 kills and
Alexandra Torline had 17.
CSUSB had defeated the Warriors 29 straight matches since losing Nov. 3, 2000, and the loss was just the third in 43 all-time meetings.
Blair Ehrlich led the Warriors (14-9, 8-9) with 14 kills in their 18-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12 victory.
Leading 2 sets to 1 in the fourth, the Coyotes led 19-16 before the Warriors crept back. The set was tied at 20, 21, 22 and 23 before the Warriors won with a kill and a Coyotes' attack error to force the fifth set.
Stanislaus State scored the first six points of the fifth set and pushed ahead 10-5 before CSUSB came back.
A kill from Torline and a bad set cut the deficit to three. After a CSUSB service error, the Coyotes scored three straight points with block assists from
Malika O'Brien and Torline, and another from O'Brien and
Ashley Solis and got to within a point, 11-10.
But a kill and a Warriors service ace put them ahead 13-10 and they remained out front and won, thanks to a kill from Ehrlich.
Jayann DeHoog had 49 assists with 13 digs. Five Coyotes had double figures in digs, with Solis leading with 16.
Kaitlyn Christner had eight block assists and O'Brien and Torline each had six.
