ARCATA (Oct. 3, 2015) -- The 20th ranked Coyotes left no doubt about turning aside their loss to Sonoma State with an impressive Saturday night effort against Humboldt State, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-13).
The Coyotes hit .366 and forced 27 Lumberjack attack errors in the one-sided victory. CSUSB improved to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA.
Senior All-American
Brenna McIntosh hit .625 (10 kills, no errors, 16 attacks) and teammate
Alexandra Torline added nine kills and seven digs.
Freshman setter
Jayann DeHoog had 26 assists with seven digs, and
Malika O'Brien dominated on the block with nine assists. Senior
Ashley Solis had six block assists.
CSUSB hit .448 in the opener, and backed it up with a .421 in the second and was never threatened. Only two lead changes occurred in the match and just eight ties in the three-set victory.
In the opener, CSUSB broke away after the set was tied at 12-12. McIntosh had five kills down the stretch.
A 6-0 run put CSUSB up 16-10 in the second, and an 8-1 run, led by three block assists from O'Brien, gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.
CSUSB had 10 kills in the third, and utilized 10 attack errors from HSU in the third for the victory.
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Tuesday night when it takes on Cal State Monterey Bay.
