No. 19 Coyotes turn aside Otters again

SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 30, 2015) — Maybe the Coyotes should play more CCAA teams three times in a month.

No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino earned another victory over Cal State Monterey Bay, winning 3-1 in scores of 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 25-13 at Coussoulis Arena on Friday night.

The victory gives the Coyotes their 18th consecutive 20-win season and puts them at 20-3 overall and 13-2 in the CCAA heading into Saturday night's home match against Cal Poly Pomona on Senior Night.

Senior OH Alexandra Torline was outstanding on this night with a match-high 21 kills in 51 attacks with three service aces, and five block assists as the Coyotes hit .265 over the four-set match. Sophomore OH Lauren Nicholson was next in line with 14 kills and Malika O'Brien with 13 and a a team-high six block assists.

The Coyotes took the opener, but it was not easy. They led by as many as nine (16-8) before the Otters got rolling with a 14-4 run. The set was tied three times late until Torline fired off consecutive killls for the set victory.

CSUMB came right back in the second in which there were seven ties and three lead changes. The Otters hit their match-best at .243, while the Coyotes were held to .195.

In the third, CSUSB grabbed the lead from the get-go and led by as much as seven (19-12). Kills by Nicholson, O'Brien and Torline helped the Coyotes remain out front.

The Coyotes then overpowered the Otters (5-15, 4-11) in the fourth. Down 4-2, CSUSB rallied big time with an 11-2 run that was keyed by all three of Torline's service aces on the night.

Senior Ashley Solis had eight kills with three digs and two block assists. Senior OH Kaitlyn Christner had four kills wtih eight digs and two service aces.

Freshman setter Jayann DeHoog had 46 assists with 17 digs. Nicholson also reached double digits in digs with 12. Christner added eight digs as did Torline.

Amber Tygart led the Otters in kills with 14.

The Coyotes and Otters played for the third time this season due to the uneven scheduling in the CCAA brought forth with the 20-match regular season schedule and 13-team league membership now that Cal State San Marcos is a member.
