SEASIDE (Oct. 25, 2015) — Emmanuel Corona headed in a corner kick from Adam Voloder with 51 seconds remaining in the first half and his score held up as Cal State Monterey Bay defeated Cal State San Bernardino 1-0 on Sunday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer match.
It was another narrow defeat for the Coyotes, who suffered their fifth straight defeat and are winless in their last nine matches at 0-6-3.
The Otters are now 8-7 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA ,while CSUSB dropped to 3-8-3, 1-6-3.
The Coyotes dominated the statistics, outshooting the Otters 12-7, had more corner kicks than the Otters (9-5) and had more saves in goal (3-2), but also were cited for more fouls (15-9).
Among the 12 Coyotes shots, only two -- by
Tony Lo and
Robert Wagner -- required Otters goalkeeper Evan Drake to make a save. Corona's goal came on one of his three shots attempts. Israel Ayala had the other SOG for the Otters.
The Coyotes return home Thursday to host Sonoma State at 12:30 p.m. in the final week of regular-season play.
