Torline, Nicholson lead Coyotes past Chico State

SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 24, 2015) — Senior Alexandra Torline and sophomore Lauren Nicholson combined for 24 kills, 20 digs and six blocks Saturday night to lead the No. 22-ranked Coyotes past Chico State 3-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball play.

A "Think Pink" Night crowd of nearly 500 saw the Coyotes roar to a 25-15 victory in the first set and maintained their dominance at the net in finishing off the Wildcats 25-11 and 25-14 for their eighth straight victory, improving the team's overall record to 19-3, 12-2 in the CCAA.

Chico State, coming off a 3-1 loss on Friday night at UC San Diego, fell to 16-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

Senior OH Kaitlyn Christner came to the rescue with six block assists Saturday night on top of eight block assists she posted on Friday night. She also hit .417 with six kills against the Wildcats. The Coyotes powerful net game produced eight team blocks. Chico State had none.
   
Torline had a match-high 13 kills on .542 hitting to go with nine digs and two service aces. Nicholson had 11 kills on .550 hitting with a team-high 11 digs and one solo block.

CSUSB's offense was on fire all night, hitting at a .449 clip, .571 in the third set,  while Chico State, hitting .210 on the season hit just .076. The Coyotes made just six attack errors to 18 for Chico State.

The Coyotes other middle blocker, Malika O'Brien, had seven kills on .385 hitting with two service aces. Freshman setter Jayann DeHoog  produced 39 assists.
 
Ashton Kershner led Chico with six kills. The team's leading offensive player, Olivia Mediano, had just two kills in 20 attacks, hitting a minus .200. Jacki Kreymborg had a team-high 10 digs for the Wildcats.
