SEASIDE (Oct. 17, 2015) -- It was all about No. 22 Cal State San Bernardino in its match Saturday night against Cal State Monterey Bay.
CSUSB allowed just two tie scores and one lead change in its 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 rout over the Otters in CCAA volleyball.
Senior OH
Alexandra Torline led the Coyotes (17-3, 10-2 CCAA) with 15 kills in their sixth straight victory and 10th in its last 11 matches. Junior
Abbey Vollkommer pounded four service aces, freshman
Jayann DeHoog had 27 assists and 10 digs, while seniors
Ashley Solis and
Kaitlyn Christner also had 10 digs.
Three Coyotes had four block assists --
Malika O'Brien, All-American
Brenna McIntosh and Torline -- and McIntosh supplied the team's only solo block.
The two ties in the match occurred at 1-1 and 2-2 in the opening set and the Otters had their only lead at 2-1.
And then it was Coyotes all the time.
Five straight points with two block assists from both Torline and McIntosh along with a service ace from Vollkommer accounted for a hunk of the run in a set that saw CSUMB hit -.083 (8-11-36), while the Coyotes converted a sturdy 75 percent on sideouts. Torline had seven kills in the set.
In the second, Torline again led in kills, this time with six and Vollkommer had two aces.
And in the third, sophomore
Lauren Nicholson had six digs with three kills.
The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena for their next four matches. They'll face Stanislaus State on Friday and Chico State on Saturday.
CSUMB dropped to 4-13, 3-9 and was led by Anela Visesio's 13 kills.
