SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 10, 2015) -- The middle blocker tandem of
Malika O'Brien and
Brenna McIntosh combined for 23 kills and seven block assists and No. 23 Cal State San Bernardino routed visiting Cal State East Bay 3-0 in CCAA volleyball Saturday night.
The victory pushes the Coyotes' winning streak to three and puts them at 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the CCAA heading into this week's matches against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay.
CSUSB held leads throughout, proven by just three lead changes and eight ties in the one hour and 18-minute match that culminated in a 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 win.
O'Brien led the charge with 12 kills and hit .688 with three block assists and All-American McIntosh had 11 kills (.450 percentage) and one solo and four block assists.
Kaitlyn Christner,
Lauren Nicholson and
Alexandra Torline all had six kills as CSUSB hit .306 on the night.
A four-point rally put the Coyotes in command in the opener after the set was tied at 10-10. Torline keyed the run with a kill and a service ace and CSUSB stayed in command.
In the second, O'Brien ripped six kills in eight attacks and McIntosh was 4-for-4 on the attack in which CSUSB hit .517.
And in the third, grabbed the lead from the outset, starting with a kill from O'Brien. McIntosh had five kills and Nicholson had eight digs in the final set.
Jayann DeHoog set up 32 assists and Torline and O'Brien each had two service aces.
DeHoog keyed the defensive with 13 digs, while Nicholson had nine and Torline six.
Christner added punch on the block with three assists.
CSUEB (3-15, 1-9 CCAA) was led by Kiki Leuteneker's eight kills.
