SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 9, 2015) -- No. 23 Cal State San Bernardino produced its best attack percentage of the season en route to a 3-0 win over visiting San Francisco State in CCAA volleyball Friday night.
The Coyotes hit .380 on 46 kills, 11 errors in 92 attack in their 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 victory over the Gators. The victory was CSUSB's second 3-0 win in its last three matches as it improved to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the CCAA.
Senior
Alexandra Torline reached double figures in kills (11) for the 11th time this season and sophomore
Lauren Nicholson had 10. Three players had eight --
Kaitlyn Christner,
Malika O'Brien and
Brenna McIntosh.
O'Brien had the top percentage at .727 and Christner an even .500.
The Coyotes hit .393 in the opener, but could not break away from the Gators (7-9, 5-4). Thirteen ties and eight lead changes negated either team from reaching necessary momentum until a kill from freshman
Jayann DeHoog and a Gator attack error put the Coyotes ahead 18-16.
Kills from Nicholson, O'Brien and McIntosh in the closing moments gave the Coyote the opener.
And that dig-down effort in the opener seemed to get the Coyotes in motion as they grabbed control in the final sets for the sweep.
O'Brien and Nicholson each had four kills in the second to key a .419 effort on the attack, and Christner hammered five kills in the third.
DeHoog had 38 assists and Torline had the only service ace. Senior
Ashley Solis played the libero position and led in digs with 11. Nicholson had nine.
On the block, O'Brien had one solo and five block assists.
THe Coyotes take on Cal State East Bay on Saturday. The match will be played in The Den due to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pow-Wow at CSUSB.
Taylor Brownlee led the Gators with a match-high 12 kills.
