Corey Christ scored three goals in the rout and
Diego Mendoza and
Edgar Llamas had the other goals against the Red Storm. It marked the Coyotes' highest scoring output since CSUSB defeated Cal State East Bay 7-0 on Sept. 25, 2009.
Temperatures were in the 100s in the second half, but it didn't seem to slow down the Coyotes' cause. The totaled 25 shots on the day – 16 in the second half – and took control with three first-half goals.
Christ got going with his career day in the 11
th minute on a feed from
Larry Llamas when he punched in a shot from 10 yards out.
What might have been the most impressive of the 90-minute game occurred late in the first half when CSUSB struck with two goals inside a 2 1/2 –minute span.
Edgar Llamas took in a long pass from
Daniel Gonzalez and took it in the 43
rd minute. Then, Christ broke free on a feed from
Edgar Llamas with 35 seconds remaining in the half and that essentially spelled DSU's doom.
Mendoza scored unassisted when he controlled a deflection from the Red Storm goalie and then in the 74
th minute, Christ got his third and final goal of the day off a one-on-one opportunity from
Jose Gonzalez.
DSU spoiled the shut-out bid on a free kick from Sean Jenne in the 75
th minute.
Ivan Sanchez earned the victory with four saves.
CSUSB (3-0 overall) returns to Coyote Premier Field on Monday against Bethesda Christian of Anaheim.
DSU dropped to 0-2-1.
