Otters come out on top over Coyotes

Kevin Meriwether leads the Coyotes in at-bats with 170.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEASIDE -- Kevin Meriwether's two-run double paced the Coyotes in their 8-2 loss to host Cal State Monterey Bay in Saturday's opening game.

The Otters came back to win the second game by an 11-2 margin.

The weekend series concludes Sunday with a 9-inning and 7-inning doubleheader that gets underway at 11 a.m.

Game 1: CSUMB 8, Coyotes 2

Down 2-0 through one inning when Friday's rain forced the cancellation, Meriwether came through in the fourth inning.

Meriwether came through with his two-run double with two outs. Aaron Owen reached on an error by the catcher on a sacrifice bunt and Trevor McMaster on a fielder's choice.

Three batters later, Meriwether tied the game at 2-2.

But the Otters answered with a six-run, six-hit fourth inning that provided the final outcome.

Nick Oddo led the Coyotes with two hits. Meriwether's double was their only extra-base hit.

Game 2: CSUMB 11, Coyotes 2

Nick Massari gave the Coyotes (12-32 overall, 10-24 CCAA) a two-out, RBI-double in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, but CSUMB out-hit the Coyotes 17-9 for the victory.

McMaster gave the Coyotes their other run when he connected on a one-out single up the middle that scored Owen, who reached on a single through the left side.

William Ouellette, Warren Fishback and McMaster all had two hits. Fishback had a leadoff double in the fourth.
