Coyotes swept in four-game series at CSUEB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAYWARD -- Victoria Lievanos hit a solo home run in the Coyotes' 8-1 loss to Cal State East Bay in the opener of the teams' CCAA softball doubleheader Saturday.

The Pioneers responded with a 3-2 victory in the second to sweep the Coyotes in the four-game set.

CSUSB (25-21 overall, 12-16 CCAA) returns to Coyote Softball Park on Friday and Saturday when it plays host to visiting San Francisco State.

Game 1: CSUEB 8, Coyotes 1

Lievanos gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the second when she connected to left field.

But the Pioneers came back with two runs in their half of the second and eventually took control with a five-run fifth inning.

Lievanos and Cassandra Williams had the only two hits for the Coyotes.

Game 2: CSUEB 3, Coyotes 2

The Pioneers scored two runs in the first inning and never trailed.

CSUSB tied the score at 2-2 in the fifth when Nicole Nobbe drove in Thalia Ortiz on a two-out single to left.

But Chelsia Kakela drove the game-winning on a single through the left side in the fifth.

Ortiz and Nobbe each had two hits for the Coyotes, who out-hit the Pioneers, 9-7.
