Coyotes, Warriors split doubleheader

TURLOCK -- Stephanie Luhman threw a one-hit shutout to lead the Coyotes to a 5-0 victory and a split in their doubleheader against Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA softball.

The Coyotes (14-9 overall and 8-6 CCAA) return to Coyote Park on Tuesday when they take on Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Game 1: Cal State Stanislaus 4, Coyotes 0

Nicole Nobbe and Mary Menicucci had the only hits for the Coyotes.

In fact, Thalia Ortiz was the only player to reach second base and that occurred when teammate Alyssa Ramos delivered a sacrifice bunt in the first inning.

The Coyotes were retired in order in the second through fourth inning. Nobbe broke up CSUS's no-hit bid with her two-out single in the sixth.

Game 2: Coyotes 5, Cal State Stanislaus 0

Junior RHP Stephanie Luhman was the story in the nightcap as she delivered on her one-hit shutout.

Her only hit allowed was a one-out single in the first. No Warrior advanced past first and she retired the last 18 batters in order.

Ortiz came through in the second ining with a two-out, two-run double to left that brought home Brittany Resendez and Darian Manuz.

Cassandra Williams and Menicucci had RBI in the third and Ortiz came through with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Nobbe led the Coytoes with two hits.
