Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – There may be only two games left in the 2013-14 season for coach Renee Jimenenz's Coyotes, but how well her team played Friday night could be a taste of great things to occur in future seasons.
Sophomores
Alexcia Mack and
Jenna Klein keyed the attack with a combined 38 points as five Coyotes scored in double figures in an 83-63 rout over visiting San Francisco State.
The victory extended the Coyotes' winning streak to a season-best four games and the offensive output was the team's best this season.
Mack hit three 3-pointers and was 6-of-6 from the line for a game-high 21 points, while Klein scored a career-high 17 points with a best five 3s. She was 6-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-7 on 3's.
CSUSB (8-15, 7-13 CCAA) got the lead for good on a
Trinidee Trice jumper with 6:01 left in the first half – 27-25. The Coyotes never looked back and then padded the lead over a team with hopes set on earning a berth in the CCAA tournament in two weeks.
Mack started the decisive run with a jumper that put CSUSB up 50-43 with 16:47 left. Seven minutes later, the Coyotes ended their 19-9 run on a Klein 3 with 9:18 and leading 67-50.
Two Gipson free throws with 1:08 left gave the Coyotes their largest lead of the game at 83-60.
Gipson finished with a 12-assist, 10-point night and flirted with earning the first triple-double in program history with seven rebounds.
On Senior Night,
Jazzmyn Davis scored a season-high 17 points, fellow senior
Trinidee Trice had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
CSUSB shot 54.2 percent in the second on 13-of-24 shooting. It dominated in points off turnovers, turning 19 SFSU miscues into 23 points.
SFSU (14-12, 10-10) was led by Lauren Varney's 16.
Five seniors played in their final home game for the Coyotes -- Gipson, Trice, Davis,
Maurisha McKissic and Jacke Fa'asamala.
The Coyotes complete the season next week at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Friday) and Cal State L.A. (Saturday).
