Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – The Coyotes found an offense late in the 2013-14 season. It might be a bit unorthodox, but it has worked over their last three games.
CSUSB dominated on the offensive board, turning 28 offensive rebounds into 27 points in the Coyotes' 58-47 win over visiting Sonoma State in CCAA women's play Friday night.
Sophomore Alexica Mack led the Coyotes (7-15 overall, 6-13 CCAA), who won their third straight game, scored a game-high 14 points. Fellow sophomore
Adriana Brodie had 12 points and senior
Tayllor Gipson had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Coyotes grabbed control early in this game as they never trailed. They held a comfortable lead in the opening half, extending it to 22 points when junior
Briana Baker drained a 3-pointer right before the half and CSUSB went into the locker room leading 35-13.
All told, the Coyotes outscored the Seawolves 27-3 on second-chance shots and were never seriously threatened in the second half, despite SSU shooting 57.1 percent from the floor on 12 of 21 shooting.
In fact, with CSUSB outgunning the Seawolves (4-19, 3-16) on the boards, the Coyotes had 31 more field goal attempts than their opponent.
No Seawolf reached double figures. They were led by Tanner Adams and Kristina Fahey with nine points apiece.
The Coyotes complete their home portion of the season tomorrow night when they host San Francisco State. CSUSB's five seniors – Gipson,
Trinidee Trice,
Jackie Fa'asamala,
Jazzmyn Davis and
Maurisha McKissic will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
