No. 13 Coyotes stake claim to best start in school history

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 06, 2014) -- Six games into the 2014-15 season and already the 13th-ranked Coyotes have made history.

CSUSB led wire-to-wire in its 64-53 victory over host San Francisco State in CCAA women's basketball. Its 6-0 record is the best start for the Coyotes in four seasons and matches the best start in school history. Only three other times CSUSB has opened a year 6-0 and it will have a chance for the record Saturday night at Humboldt State.

Brianna Harden earned her fifth double-double of the season (10 points, 14 rebounds), while Alexcia
Mack and Briana Baker earned team-high marks with 13 points each. Chelsea Barnes added 12 points with six boards, four assists and three steals for CSUSB, which led from beginning to end for the fourth time this season.

CSUSB wasted little time taking control of the game, scoring the game's first eight points. Bisera Peshkova gave the Coyotes their first double-digit lead of the game on a 3-pointer that lifted her team up 15-4 with 12:16 left in the half.

SFSU crept back in the game and got within nine at 19-10, but Chelsea Barnes scored six of her points in just under three minutes during CSUSB's 12-3 run for a 31-13 lead with 3:44 left.

The Gators got no closer than six points with 10 minutes left in the game, before Baker added two straight layups to get the Coyotes lead back to 10 at 52-42 with 9:04 left.

CSUSB kept its streak of holding an opponent to under 40 percent shooting, but on the narrowest of margins as the Gators were 39.7 from the floor.

The Coyotes took advantage of their free throws, outscoring SFSU 19-4 from the line.

Adriana Brodie had eight points with seven rebounds before fouling out.

Michelle Sutton had 14 points for the Gators (0-6, 0-2).
