Box Score ARCATA (Dec. 13, 2014) -- Junior Chelsea Barnes led No. 11 Cal State San Bernardino with 10 points in the Coyotes' 60-50 loss to Humboldt State in CCAA women's basketball Saturday night.
The loss snapped the Coyotes' six-game winning streak and ended their attempt at a school-record streak to begin a season. The record of six was set four times -- all since 2000.
Alexcia Mack and Brianna Harden each had nine points and Adriana Brodie had seven as Humboldt State pulled away in the early going of the second half for its 10-point victory margin.
Coach Renee Jimenez's squad led for nearly all of the first half with Barnes hitting six points in the game's first five minutes, giving CSUSB a 10-1 lead on a jumper with 14:58 remaining. The Coyotes overpowered the Jacks in the middle with a 20-12 advantage in the paint.
Tied at 27-27 at halftime, CSUSB forged ahead with a four-point lead with 18:23 left on a pair of Barnes' free throws. But HSU outscored the Coyotes 17-7 in the next seven minutes of play including a 10-0 spurt and the Lumberjacks stayed in control for the victory.
Mack hit a 3-pointer with 9:08 left in the game that pulled the Coyotes to within a point of the lead at 44-43, but they were held to just three field goals in the final seven minutes of play and HSU led by as many as 13 for the victory.
CSUSB was undone with its 22 turnovers on just 20 field goals.
The 50 points were a season-low by CSUSB (6-1, 2-1 CCAA), which returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night against HSU. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
A'Jaee Foster led HSU (7-1, 3-0) with a game-high 15 points, 13 in the second half.
