Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Nov. 18, 2014) -- Through two games in the 2014-15 season, coach Renee Jimenez's team has yet to play from behind or share the lead.
The Coyotes grabbed the lead early against visiting Cal Baptist on Tuesday night and never let it go in an impressive 76-57 victory at Coussoulis Arena.
Junior All-CCAA guard Alexcia Mack led the Coyotes (2-0 overall) with 15 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the line and led five players in double figures. Chelsea Austin was next with 14 including four 3-pointers, junior Brianna Harden 12, Bisera Peshkova 11 (three 3-pointers) and Briana Baker 10.
The Coyotes have led for a total of 79 minutes and 22 seconds of a possible 80 minutes played in their two games. A key 14-3 run in the final four minutes of the first half created distance from the Lancers in a 43-27 halftime lead. CSUSB shot 55.2 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, and defensively stunted the Lancers (2-1) from any kind of offensive flow.
The second half was much of the same as CSUSB did not let up on its lead, creating a 23-point lead on two occasions. The first when Austin drained a three to lift the Coyotes 68-45 with 7:54 to go and two minutes later on a Peshkova three that put the Coyotes in command, 70-47.
The Coyotes completed the night hitting 29-of-60 shots, good for a 48.3-percent effort.
CSUSB outscored the Lancers from the 3-point stripe 30-6 with Harden adding two and Mack one to help the cause that Austin and Peshkova created.
The Coyotes were strong on the boards with five players owning five boards or more. Austin led with eight and Adriana Brodie and Mack each had seven.
Mack and Peshkova shared assist leads with five each and Brodie and Mack each had three steals.
Oliva Weber led the Lancers with a game-high 19 points off the bench.
The Coyotes are off until the UC San Diego Thanksgiving tourney Nov. 27-28. .They'll face Pac West favorites Azusa Pacific and Academy of Art.
