Box Score CHICO (Oct. 30, 2014) -- The 21st-ranked Coyotes came up short in their regular-season finale, losing 3-2 to Chico State in CCAA women's soccer.
The Coyotes (14-4 overall, 7-4 CCAA) will play at Sonoma State on Sunday in the opening round of the CCAA Tournament.
Chico State (11-4-2, 8-2-1) raced to a 3-0 in the first half and that proved to be the difference, despite junior
Melanie Aguayo's two goals in the final half.
Aguayo scored an unassisted goal in the 68th minute off her own deflected shot. Ten minutes later, she took in a feed from
Kiana Quarles and hit a one-timer from 10 yards out.
But the Coyotes couldn't get any closer.
"Three mistakes cost us the game,'' head coach
Travis Clarke said. "We'll remain in northern California and get ready for a tough team in Sonoma State (Sunday).''
The Coyotes' defense was stellar in the second half as it did not allow a Chico State shot
